General guidance — The notes below describe how things normally work in town. For anything time-sensitive, check current details with the official service.
Getting around
- The town centre is walkable end to end in roughly 35 minutes.
- Local buses connect the centre with La Mata and the beaches.
- Long-distance and airport coaches leave from the bus station on Calle Antonio Machado.
Taxis & transfers
- Official taxi ranks sit at the port, the bus station and Plaza Waldo Calero.
- Alicante airport is about 45 minutes by road; agree the fare or transfer price in advance.
- Ride-hailing apps have limited coverage — a phone taxi booking is usually faster.
Parking & driving
- Blue-line street bays are paid; white lines are free where signed.
- Underground car parks near the port and the market are the easiest option in summer.
- Much of the seafront promenade is pedestrian-only in the evenings.
Pharmacies & healthcare
- Pharmacies show a green cross; a rota of 24-hour duty pharmacies is posted on every door.
- Torrevieja has a public hospital plus several private clinics with English-speaking staff.
- EU visitors should carry an EHIC/GHIC card; everyone else should carry travel insurance details.
Good to know
- Many kitchens close in the afternoon — plan a late lunch or a later dinner.
- Smaller shops close for siesta in the middle of the afternoon.
- Tap water is drinkable but heavily mineralised; most locals buy bottled.
